SpiritKeepers Topics and Presenters for July & August 2008

SpiritKeepers meets Sunday mornings (except for the first Sunday of each month) from 10:00 am – 12:00 am. On the first Sunday, we encourage you to find other forms of spiritual nourishment and to bring it back and share it with the fellowship.
Our location: The West Boulder Senior Center at the NE corner of 9th & Arapahoe

July 13 - Universal Worship
with Zubeida Kruger. This morning we will experience the Universal Worship service of Pir O Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan. After receiving this inspiration in the early 20th century, Inayat Khan initiated ministers called Cherags to offer the message of Universalism far and wide. The message of God in all forms is honored on a single altar. It was this ritual and its intent that inspired Murshid Samuel Lewis to birth the Dances of Universal Peace as a living altar with the same purpose. "Breath" will be the theme of this mornings service lead by Zubeida. She was initiated into the Sufi Order of the West by Pir Vilayat Khan in 1976 and she has served as a representative and teacher of the Sufi path in Boulder for over 30 years.

July 20 - Due to annual repairs and maintenance at the Senior Center, there will be no meeting of SpiritKeepers this morning.

July 27 - The Silence in Between
with Rev. Timothy Dobson. Interiority is not a real word, but it is a real space, a real experience. Murshid Samuel Lewis is quoted as saying that the silence following the dance is the most important. What is possible during a time of gestation? This morning, we will explore the time/space of interiority in a "seshin- like" format, by experiencing specific dances followed by seated meditation and reflection via mindful conversation. Christine Tulis of "Sound Temple Music and Healing Arts" will be our guest musician providing harp music as transition around our process. If you have a sitting practice, bring your favorite cushion. Backjacks and chairs will also be available.

August 10 - Be Heard By the Other Side - Using Stories to Build Bridges
with Sondra Singer and Linda Jacobson. This special workshop will deal with how personal stories, folktales and myths illustrate larger issues. Applied storytelling in action can help us build bridges between seeming antagonists as well as between our cause and the public at large. This workshop was well received at the recent Rocky Mountain Storytellers' Conference in April as well as the Jefferson County Democrats' 2nd Saturday Forum in June. Sondra Singer and Linda Jacobson are both professional storytellers and developed this workshop in order to help others to better use story, to help us understand and have compassion for those we disagree with, and to recognize when story is being used to influence us. This workshop is for adults only, please. Some content may be inappropriate for children.

August 17 - From Fear to Faith
with Annalisa Mather. Annalisa is the producer of the documentary, From Fear to Faith. After showing a clip from the film we will have the opportunity to discuss the profound yet simple truths expressed by Father Thomas Keating, Richard Moss and Deepak Chopra. The documentary reveals the lives of courageous people as they share a compelling message about how to live with a deep and enduring faith. In addition to producing films Annalisa leads retreat and seminars. Her primary area of interest is the psychology of consciousness.

August 24 - The Hoop and the Tree - Developing Aspects of Wholeness
with Rev. Timothy Dobson. Think of a gyroscope. The center vertical pole is encircled by a moving ring. This dimensional relationship is so steady that it is used in the integral functions of navigation systems on airplanes and ships. The complementary nature of vertical aspiration and its lower access to our lineage or ancestry, and the ecological/relational circle that surrounds our lives, will be the symbol informing our consideration this morning. We will entertain the ancient cross cultural applications of these symbols and see how they may provide a working compass for finding deeper relationship with all of life. This presentation is inspired by a book of the same title, written by Chris Hoffman, who gifted it to me at a Boulder Peace Dance seven years ago.

August 31 -Presence and A New Earth
with Marianne Green. Eckhardt Tolle's latest book 'A New Earth' and the recent fascinating and practical webcast of Eckhardt and Oprah, have inspired millions to connect more consciously with the 'Presence' within. His tools are simple –and amazingly profound. This spring, Tolle's practice of staying 'on the breath' aided me in deep transformations in 2 challenging family relationships. I would like to share these experiences with you, and hear your stories as well. Sacred Sounds - my personal conduit to Holy Space - and Imagery will also be a part of this presentation!
